Columbia Corridor Corredores Race Series*

* Corredores means runners in Spanish

The aim of the Columbia Corridor Corredores Race Series is to help area runners maintain their fitness throughout the year by regularly meeting together with others with similar interests and ambitions. A complementary goal is to provide challenging experiences for people of all ages, abilities, and ambitions to work toward and achieve new levels of fitness, confidence, and accomplishment. Each event in the CCC Race Series directly benefits the Hermiston Cross Country Program.

December 31, 2011 - Resolution Run - HHS Track - Kid's Mile, 2 mi walk/run, 5K Run

May 12, 2012 - Butte Challenge - Butte Park - Kid's Butte Scoot, 5K walk/run, 10K RUN

July 14, 2012 - CCC Trail Runs - McNary Beach Park - 8K walk, 10K Run, 25K Run, 25K Relay

September 2012 - Runner's Soul XC Fest - SMS - 1mi Kid's Run, 5K Community Run

October 2012 - Columbia River Power Marathon - Desert River Inn - 8K, 13.1, 26.2, & Relay

Each event provides opportunities for student-athletes to learn real-life responsibilities by by allowing them to assist with registration, marshaling the courses, and at the finish line with timing and results. The proceeds from the races in the Columbia Corridor Corredores Race Series help fund the Hermiston Cross Country Program (High School and Middle School teams and clubs). Thank you for your support and patience as we strive to provide healthy entertainment for you, your family, friends, and community!

VOLUNTEER

All of the events in the CCC Race Series are organized and manned by a small group of volunteers (many of them high schoolers, parents, coaches, and active community members). If you, your business, or service organizations would like to help with the organization of an event by serving as volunteers on the course as marshals or aid station staff we would gladly welcome your assistance. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering and improving an event with your assistance.

2011 RACE RECAPS:

FIRST RUN: The first event in the Columbia Corridor Corredores Race Series 2011 was Hermiston's First Run on New Year's Day. Nearly 200 people turned out to walk, run, or volunteer to start 2011 on the right foot.

BUTTE CHALLENGE: The next event in the CCC Race Series was the Butte Challenge. This event celebrated its 12th annual running on Mothers Day weekend of 2011. Perfect weather and great competition led to new men's and women's 10K course records. The East Oregonian/Hermiston Herald Butte Challenge was also a trial run for the new chip timing services offered by Eric Jensen and Eastern Oregon Sports Training LLC. This new, state of the art technology will also be used at the Brooks Runner's Soul XC Fest on September 10 and the Columbia River Power Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K, and Marathon Relay on October 22.

Hundreds of walkers and runners filled the streets of Hermiston for the 12th annual Butte Challenge.

CCC TRAIL RUNS: 2011 marked a change in the way we celebrate Hermiston Fun Fest. Rather than running & walking through the traffic in town, we decided to take the scenic route along the trails overlooking the Columbia River. The inaugural CCC Trail Runs were well attended and enjoyed for the challenge they presented and the invigorating views and river breezes that helped kick off the Fun Fest festivities. Several people came from near and far to participate in the 10 mile, 25K Relay, and 25K Trail Runs.

The next event on the CCC Race Series was the Brooks Runner's Soul XC Fest on Saturday, September 10, 2011 on the playing fields of Sandstone Middle School. This served as Hermiston's home cross country meet and featured some of the best high school and middle school teams and athletes in the northwest. This year was especially exciting as the defending Oregon State Cross Country Champions, Hermiston High School, lined up beside the 2010 runner ups out of Franklin High School in Portland, OR. With both teams returning a good portion of their teams from last year, Hermiston and Franklin started a team battle that lasted throughout the season up to the state meet. While Franklin took the individual honors, Hermiston took the team trophy. On the ladies side, Union High School (who eventually won the state team title), won the team trophy.

The Columbia River Power Marathon didn't dissapoint as three Hermiston women paced all three events and eventually won the 8K, Half Marathon, and Marathon. Congratulations to Maggie Coleman, Jennifer Macias, and Jen Puzey who each won in their debuts in these events! Many thanks to all of the participants, volunteers, and spectators who made this year's marathon so memorable. Gear up for next year's five year anniversary!

The final event of the year will be run on the same course as the first - a flat, fast course through town. Over 150 people braved the cold on December 31, 2011 for the Resolution Run. They were rewarded with clear skies and sunshine which resulted in improved times and competitive races (particularly in the women's 5K). For complete results click on the Rez Run tab above.
